WHAT CAN WE DO FOR YOU?
Pilates brings a better understanding of your own body, encouraging awareness and engagement of the postural muscles which help support the entire length of the spine. It helps you hold yourself in a better and more dynamic balance. Use of the core abdominal is key as is a strong and supple spine. As you achieve better alignment and posture, extend your range of movement and release tension and stress, the result is a happier body and mind. The gentle weight bearing exercises in Pilates are also beneficial in maintaining and even improving bone density.

HOW PILATES WAS DEVELOPED
The work takes its name from Joseph Pilates (1883-1967), who developed a system of exercise and movement which he called Controlology, given the emphasis on body control and concentration of mind to achieve fitness, better posture and overall well-being. Joe Pilates developed the technique through a ‘classic’ repertoire of matwork, floor based exercises that work the body and mind in coordination. He also adopted and designed equipment to help teach and further refine the exercises. He discovered that light resistance springs or bands can encourage good alignment and use of the correct muscles while supporting the body in movement. His legacy continues to be developed, and Pilates now has well deserved recognition as sound body practice with many physiotherapists, osteopaths and holistic practitioners. |
